About the Customer
A leading global manufacturer and distributor of fluid power hydraulic and pneumatic seals, wiper seals, o-rings, rod and piston seals, bearings and other custom high-performance rubber and plastic parts.
Opportunity
The Customer initially approached Biomer seeking a high temperature polymer system for a novel piston seal application. The new polymer system to offer improved durability over a wider dynamic range of operating conditions.
Biomer’s challenge was to design a polymer system that would offer significant performance advantages in application, that was both scalable in manufacture and could be seamlessly integrated into the Customer’s existing manufacturing operations.
Solution
Drawing upon its experience in high temperature TPU’s, Biomer’s approach was to design and synthesize a custom HTTPU formulation that would match or exceed competitive seal polymer performance characteristics under standard material test conditions. Satisfying these criteria provided the Customer with the confidence to move forward with internal application simulation testing and collaboration with existing clients for extended field trials.
Result
Following extensive internal and collaborative external field testing, the resultant formulation has been signed off for integration into the Customer’s manufacturing supply chain.
Outcome
As a result of this initial collaboration, the Customer and Biomer are now evaluating the opportunity to extend the current high temperature material offering into other products and application areas.
